OWSD hiked the Summit Trail to the peak of Bear Butte in May, 2007. Read Linda's article

Heavy fog blanketed the butte

Being outdoor women who “go with the flow,” we set out on our hike.

The fog was heavy, so we could not see the prairie below or the Black Hills to the south.

We reached the summit after about an hour.

As we reached the trailhead, the fog was just beginning to lift.

We saw a Marmot along the trail.

Vicki spent two days in June 06 teaching basic fly-fishing to Brownie Girl Scouts. Read Vicki's article.

Each girl showed their creativity by creating their own paper fly after learning the parts of the fishing hook.

Each girl got a chance to practice their fly casting.

Vicki explains the difference between a fly fishing rod and a spinning rod to Brownie Girl Scouts at Brownie Day Camp.

Emily and her family and friends enjoy hunting and fishing.

A couple photos of the deer shot over the weekend....in the picture of all three of us, my dad is in the middle and his buddy Tim is on the right.

This was my first buck so I was very excited and probably will be until next year when I try to get a bigger one!

The two deer Tim shot with his bow.

This is my friend Jenna Friederich and myself (I am on the right) and the dog Cage after hunting opening weekend by Hayes, SD.

It was an absolute blast and I cannot wait to get back out into the field.

I happened to be on the phone to my father at the time, he was asking me if we had caught anything yet. Just as I was about to say no, I dropped the phone - which landed just a couple inches from the hole - and started reeling in this gorgeous walleye. I was fishing with two buddies of mine on a very cold and windy South Dakota day; they were not happy with me because it was the only fish we caught all day, so I had bragging rights. This long day of ice fishing is still talked about.

This 23 inch walleye was caught on a slough just 8 miles northwest of Webster, SD, back in January.

Peg's first elk hunt.

I'm finding out that killing your animal on opening day is a big deal, so I'm proud. The best part of the trip was being with my husband and family.
