Kayaking the Niobrara

This event will include kayaking on the Niobrara with an overnight campout. Bring your kayaks and enjoy a day of the kayaking down the Niobrara River. OWSD will put in kayaks at Nenzel, Nebraska around noon and will kayak down the river for 4-5 hours. This event is a family event – open to all OWSD members. Overnight camping will occur at the location where you will get off the river. The place is a private residence and they have offered to let OWSD have a campout. You will need to bring your own camping gear. If choosing to stay overnight, people are welcome to go to Valentine and kayak down the commercial part of the Niobrara on Sunday. This would be an intermediate event. Doris will assist in the Kayaking help. OWSD waivers must be signed before the event starts.

Materials for Event: Bring your own Kayaks, suitable to float down the river. Doris is able to get some kayaks for people to use on a first come, first serve basis. If you need a kayak, you must let Doris know by contacting her at outdoorwomensd@yahoo.com. Lifejackets or PFD are required for this event and you must be responsible for having one.
Other items needed and not provided by OWSD: Water shoes are preferable as the Niobrara River can have sharp rocks or items that you may not be able to see in the water. Other items to bring would include; sunscreen, bug repellent, sunglasses and hats for sun protection for the face and extra water to drink for the trip down the river. Lunch will be on your own. If you choose to stay overnight, you will need your own camping gear. You will also be responsible for your own meals. Cooking facilities are available.
This is a no cost event but a donation to the cabin owners is appreciated.

Please bring a packed lunch, your camping gear and food if you plan to camp overnight on Saturday Night. Transportation will be provided back to your vehicles.
Plan B Rain or Shine, Event happens. We can kayak in the rain. If River is unsafe or if there is unsafe weather conditions such as lightening the event would be cancelled.
