OWSD Board Meeting
Summary by Linda Harris

The officers and board of directors for Outdoor Women of South Dakota met on November 12, 2005, at Lake Sharpe Marina in Ft. Pierre. Mike Koch, a brother of board member Linda Harris, owns the business. Prior to the board meeting, Mike gave a tour of the boat showroom and repair shop area. Lake Sharpe Marina is interested in partnering with OWSD to offer seminars and workshops. Possible events include fishing seminars with women professionals, classes on backing boat trailers and operating on-the-water, basic outboard motor repair and maintenance, and operating ATVs. The board will determine interest levels and scheduling.

Member Emily Currey from Pierre joined us for the board meeting. She is enthusiastic about promoting the organization and will head-up the Public Relations Committee.

The annual convention will be held in Mitchell April 7-9, 2006. There was discussion on class offerings and procuring door prizes.

An OWSD kayak trip has been scheduled with Caleb Gilkerson out of Pierre in July 2006. The river location will depend on conditions. Caleb is planning on the Cheyenne or White River.

Bonnie Struble is working to schedule a boating class with Cabela’s in Mitchell and a Hunt Safe class in 2006.

The monthly Second Sunday Gathering (SSG) for western South Dakota has resumed and events are scheduled well in to next year. A similar program for East River is starting up with activities held on the second Saturday of each month. These events will be advertised through local media outlets and posted on the website. Occasionally, it may be necessary to change the Saturday/Sunday dates for SSG events.

The next board meeting will be held in Mitchell on January 28, 2006.
