Bird Watching in Wessington Springs

On Saturday, June 11th, Rosemary Draeger of Sioux Falls will be co-leading a bird watching hike with local birdwatcher Bob Rogers beginning at 8 a.m. in our City Park. We will first hike the Old Grade Trail (Nature Trail) then carpool to Jackson Waterfowl Protection Area located southeast of Wessington Springs. This would be a great 2nd Saturday Gathering for anyone interested in learning more about birds & their habits. Rosemary was instrumental in starting the birding club in Sioux Falls & is the president-elect for the SD Ornithologists Association.

For more information call Kim Burg, OWSD Member at 539-1201 during the day.

Biking on the Michelson Trail

At the June SSG we will talk about bicycle and helmet fit and then go for a ride on the beautiful Mickelson Trail. We will bike 10.5 miles to the Mountain Trailhead, going past Crazy Horse Memorial. Riders have the option to turn around sooner or go farther.
Participants should bring water and snacks, as well as sunscreen and clothing appropriate for the weather. Bicycle helmets are strongly encouraged. The trail surface is primarily crushed limestone and gravel. Thin-tired road bikes are not recommended.
