Whether you're headed to a local lake for the day or off on an extended paddling tour, you'll want to make sure you've chosen the boat that will let you get the most out of your time on the water. more

on the web. If you are not sure OWSD has your email, send a notification to the

Your last regular hard copy will arrive in your mail box

They Are Called "Life Jackets" For A Reason
PIERRE, S.D. - Game, Fish and Parks officials are reminding
boaters and other water enthusiasts that the only way a life jacket can do its
job is by wearing it. more
Hike the Whitney Preserve!
The Whitney
Preserve is an incredible piece of land in the Southern Black Hills, just north
of the Wild Horse Sanctuary. Outdoor women have been invited to come hike the
property which includes sections of Cascade Spring, the largest perennial spring
and one of only two warm springs found in the Black Hills.

Second Sunday Gathering West River--Fly Tying
Get ready for spring and fly fishing. Join the Outdoor Women of South Dakota and local fly tying instructor Jim Phoenix to learn how to tie basic flies. The hands-on workshop will be held at the YMCA's Blumenthal room in Rapid City from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 10. The YMCA is located at 815 Kansas City Street. The Black Hills Flyfishers supply all materials and equipment; the workshop is free and open to anyone over twelve years old. The application is posted on the above web site for this summer’s
event, and the deadline for pre-registrations is June 1. If you are not able to
print an application, you may request one by mailing a self-addressed,
business-sized envelope to The Argus Leader’s Tour de Kota, PO Box 5034,
Sioux Falls, SD 57117-5034. The event is six possible days of riding. If you
ride the maximum miles each day, including the ‘rest-day’ 40-miler you’ll cover
443 miles in six days or average about 74 miles a day. If you opt for the
shorter ride on Sunday and actually rest on Thursday you’ll cover 353 miles in 5
days of riding, averaging 71 miles a day. This is all riding along the Lewis
& Clark route up the Missouri River in South Dakota.
